About Us

Donate

Courageous needs your help to continue serving the Boston community. There are many ways to contribute either financially, with your time, equipment, or with your professional services. As Courageous is a non-profit, all contributions are tax deductible to the extent the law permits.

For more information contact John Maconga.

Rewards of Giving to Courageous
Since 1987, Courageous has opened up the sport of sailing to thousands of thousands of kids from every neighbordhood of Boston...and beyond. Thomas M. Menino, Mayor of Boston, says it best:

"They learn to sail on the waters of Boston Harbor, they learn how to be self reliant and this will reward them the rest of their lives."
Your contribution makes it possible to reach thousands of youth each year, start sailing programs in Boston's Public High Schools, create special programs for the blind, work with Special Olympics and more. Courageous has been recognized by US Sailing for outstanding outreach in the sport of sailing and by Boston Magazine for Best Sailing Program.

Sponsor a Youth Sailor Program
Every summer, over 1,700 children attend Courageous Youth Programs. These children develop life skills, build confidence, and make new friends while they learn to sail. Now, you can help bring this life-changing experience to future sailors through the Sponsor a Youth Sailor Program. All it takes is a donation of $200, which will give a Boston child the opportunity to participate in a Courageous program. At the end of the season, you will receive a picture and thank you letter from the young sailor you sponsored. Please contact Courageous for more details or mail your check to Courageous care of Sponsor a Youth Sailor.

Equipment Donations
If you have a boat or other equipment in good working order that you think might benefit Courageous, please contact John Maconga.

In-Kind and Professional Services
Many companies and professionals have donated their valuable time, products, and expertise to Courageous. Examples include CSC who constructed this web page and Gourmet Caterers who provide catering services for the Make a Mark fundraiser and Courageous Challenge.

Volunteer
Courageous' first volunteer was Harry McDonough who summoned a small group of volunteers to get the resources and support necessary to create Courageous Sailing Center in 1987. Today, volunteers use their talents to assist our staff on a daily basis and participate in the our fundraising efforts. Courageous also schedules "Work Parties" where volunteer work crews help Courageous prepare boats for the season, spruce up the boathouse, etc. Volunteers also contribute to our "Guest Coach" program and not only coach our racing program for a day but also talk about how sailing made a difference in their lives and careers. For more information contact Michelle DuBois

Corporate Service Days
Courageous also hosts Corporate Work Days. Digitas and Thompson Financial Services donated their employees' time to complete important projects for Courageous. Companies have found this to be a fabulous teambuilding activity and a way to connect to the local community. To schedule your Corporate Service Day contact Michelle DuBois for more information.
