US Coast Guard & NASBLA Approved

This 16-hour hands-on, on-the-water course is for anyone who wants to learn how to safely operate a small motorboat and improve their boathandling skills on actual boats. The US Coast Guard and the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) have approved this course and an increasing number of states have recognized it as meeting their requirements for a state boating safety education certificate. These national and state approvals call for the course to include a total of six to eight hours of classroom sessions covering required education topics. Students learn:

Courageous’s sailing season runs from May 1 to October 31. Basic Keelboat Complete course must be taken over two consecutive weekends, Saturday and Sunday from 10-4:30 each day, and completed before October 31. At the conclusion of your course, you’ll need to demonstrate competency and knowledge of sailing basics in order to sail as a member. Courageous membership includes access to our fleet of 27 Rhodes 19 keelboats, plus free or discounted member activities like cookouts, camping trips, moonlight sails, racing, and more. Free refresher lesson, when offered, must be taken in May or June 2016. Memberships purchased with Free Fall expire October 31, 2016.
