Mid-Fleet Cruising Membership
If fast, friendly, easy to sail boats and Harbor Island cruising are calling your name, this is the membership for you! The Mid-Fleet Cruising membership gives you access to our three J80s and two Pearson 26s.
J80s are the newest additional to the Courageous fleet. The J80s provide a versatile platform that is easy to sail, stable and fast. The J80 has a very large cockpit, a high boom, a roller furling headsail, and can comfortably accommodate 6 adults. With excellent light air performance, as well as a 1400lb keel to provide stability in higher winds, the J80 is a modern performance boat that is as comfortable on a harbor cruise as it is rounding marks on a race course.
Pearsons are a time trusted fleet designed for cruising recreational sailing. The twenty-six-foot hull is host to a small cabin, head, and galley. An outboard on the transom makes it a great fit for first time cruisers looking to expand their horizons and visit the Harbor Islands with an option to switch to the engine if the wind dies. It is stable, family-friendly, and a great stepping stone for anyone looking to grow out of our Rhodes 19 fleet.
We strongly recommend taking the Performance 1 course, or equivalent experience, to best prepare members to pass the mid-fleet cruising checkout. Members interested in continuing their education and learning spinnaker work and harbor navigation are encouraged to check out Performance Sailing 2.
Please note: Mid-Fleet Cruising memberships are seasonal and run from May 1 through October 31. Boats may be booked out in advance on a first-come / first-served basis – members are encouraged to make a reservation as weekend availability varies. Each member can have two advanced bookings at a time.
Changes to guidelines for member use, boat availability, and guest privileges are subject to change and will reflect the most up to date CDC and Massachusetts guidelines with respect to Covid 19. Please continue to check back on our Covid-19 updates page as we get closer to the season for more direct guidance.
Recommended Next Steps:
Cancellation and Refund Policy: Please note that in an effort to keep our courses and memberships as affordable as possible, we must limit changes in schedule and membership. Because staff and instructors are hired and scheduled in advance, Courageous memberships, lessons, and/or other program fees are not refundable for any reason, including cancellation due to weather, or the participant’s inability to utilize the membership, lesson, or program. That said, we do understand that sometimes life gets in the way of sailing plans and, if necessary, we will work with you to reschedule for a later date. We cannot reschedule lessons within two weeks of their start date unless we are able to fill the spot with another student. All rescheduled lessons purchased before September 1 must be completed before the end of the season for which they were purchased; if purchased between September 1 and October 31, rescheduled lessons must be completed before June 30 of the following year.
