Racing at Courageous

Courageous has a very active racing culture, with participants ranging from first-timers to college athletes and beyond. All are welcome and accomodated by our variety of racing options. There is something here for the racer in everyone. Members recieve discounts on our racing series, but you don't have to be a member to participate; we are always happy to see new faces on the race course. Get in touch with Jake Denney, the Adult Program Director, if you are interested in racing or membership.

Our Racing Fleets

Rhodes 19 - Designed by Phillip Rhodes in the post war era, the Rhodes 19 remains to this day a popular day sailor, instructon platform and club racer. Courageous has a fleet of 24 that are raced year round by everyone from first time racers to die-hard frostbiters. We offer beginner and intermediate Rhodes racing on Thursday nights, and advanced racing on Tuesday nights.

Laser - A popular boat at every club around the world and Courageous has a fleet of 12 new boats with upgraded lines packages and rig options (Full, Radial, and 4.7) for each hull. We race Lasers on Tuesday nights in the spring and summer. Those wishing to store their own boat here at Courageous are encouraged, and even recieve a discount on the racing series.

J/22 - Courageous has a fleet of nine J/22's on our dock. These have been used in the past for PHRF racing, match racing, and regattas such as Flip Flop. In 2015, these boats remain available for our members to use and for private groups wishing to match or team race.

j80 vancouver
J/80 - We are very excited to announce the beginnings of our new sportboat fleet in 2015, with the purchase of two J/80s this year, building towards a total fleet of six boats over the next few years. The J/80 is a 26' sportboat with a fixed bulb keel and an asymmetrical spinaker on a retractible sprit pole. The boat is fun, fast, and safe, whether you want to race hard or just take a weekend afternoon sail with your family. Stay tuned as we post our racing options. We plan to allow J80 members to use the boats in PHRF racing. We also plan to offer corporate and team building events on the boats. For our members, we are developing fleet and match racing opportunities on this fast and exciting modern platform.

High School - Boston Public High Schools and Boston Latin practice and race in our fleet of Club 420's in the spring and fall.

Bearing Away at Start R19
Frostbite - For the hard-core racer inside you that scoffs at some ice and snow. Despite taking place in the middle of a New England winter, this is our most popular racing series. Every Saturday from mid November through early April 24 Rhodes 19's can be seen racing in the best wind of the year on Boston Harbor.
