youth_4_laserSchool Programs

Expanding youth sailing beyond its traditional summertime boundaries, Courageous has a growing range of spring and fall offerings.

We have spring and fall programs specifically tailored to the needs of local public schools, advanced after-school programs for our summer sailors who want a little extra practice, and programs for groups of first-time sailors who want a taste of what it feels like out on the water.

After-School Sailing

This program in Jamaica Plain is open to students who have sailed with us during the summer in Step 3 or above. This is an open time for students to practice the new skills learned over the course of the summer. Some sessions may have a specific focus, such as racing or cruising. After-School sailing is at Jamaica Plain locations.

School Programs

Courageous Sailing partners with public schools throughout the city to offer specially tailored programs that will enhance your students' experiences. These programs are offered at Jamaica Plain only and schools must be Boston Public Schools. Past school partners include The Young Achievers Pilot School for Math and Science, Codman Academy, and the JP Manning School. To find out if your school can participate, call Kate Henderson at (617) COURAGE ext. 12.

High School Sailing

Several competitive high school sailing teams train at Courageous' sites in Charlestown or Jamaica Pond. Whether a school is putting together a team for the very first time or has an already established team that needs a new place to sail, Courageous has been able to come through for local schools.

Current high schools that sail at Courageous include BB&N, Boston Latin, and Codman Academy. To find out if your high school can participate, call Kate Henderson at 617.COURAGE [268-7243] ext. 12

I feel it is only fair for me to do the same… I came to Courageous in 2011 after calling Kate, the Youth Program Director, and askin...

Courageous Has Got Talent!
Youth Program
By Allison McGuirk and Martin Weissgerber A few weeks ago, I had a front row seat to hands-down the greatest show I have ever seen: the step 1/  2 talent show.  We had been cooped up in the big tent all day because of torrential rain and lightning, so our step leaders decided that it woul...

Role models
Youth Program
By Shamus Connelly As an older kid at an after school program when I was in fifth grade, I was told to be a good example for the other children. If I was messing around they would tell me that I needed to be a good role model, that the younger students looked up to and copied me. As an ten year old...

By John Zupkus          My most noteworthy Courageous Sailing moment came very early this season during a mini camp in the beginning of June. The Brooklyn Boulders/Courageous Sailing mini camp gave a group of 9 Boston children a chance to branch out and push their limits th...

Green
By Emily Hart In the last week of sailing school, we explored different fishing strategies and their effects on fish populations. We had a great time playing games! For example, to investigate hook and line fishing (pole fishing) our “fisherman” threw a very soft ball into a sea of students who wer...
