Youth Programs

Courageous annually serves over 1,000 children, ages 8 to 18, out of three sailing venues in the City of Boston: Charlestown Navy Yard, Jamaica Pond, and Camp Harbor View. At our headquarters on Pier 4 in the Charlestown Navy Yard, we operate a "five-step" summertime sailing school program that takes students from "Learn-to-Sail" through "Instructor-in-Training" programs. Each Step in our curriculum includes sailing instruction, environmental education, and leadership training components. The Charlestown site also hosts two programs that provide free sailing and science programming to Boston Public School students. We operate similar though smaller-scale programs at both Jamaica Pond and Camp Harbor View.

We invite you to browse this site to find out more about our summertime and school-year offerings.

Getting Started

Never been sailing? Get ready for the ultimate adventure! In just one lesson you'll be out on the water. If you like it—which we're sure you will—before long you'll be skippering a boat, racing on a team, or cruising around the harbor islands. If you stick with it, one day you could even be a Courageous instructor!  While you're on the water, you're going to learn lots about the environment and get to practice some pretty important life skills, too. From fishing off our pier to overnight island camping trips, you'll be having fun on adventure after adventure, all year long!

Richard B. Ross College Bowl - September 26, 2015

About College Bowl

The 11th annual Richard B. Ross Memorial College Bowl will be sailed in Boston Harbor on September 26, 2015  out of Courageous Sailing in the Charlestown Navy Yard. The regatta was established in 2004 by Judi Ross Zuker to commemorate the life of her husband Richard Ross. A passionate sailor and a believer in the transformative power of education, Richard took great pleasure in cultivating a love for sailing in others. Though his life was tragically lost in the attacks of September 11th, 2001, his family continues to honor his zeal for sailing and education by providing generous support to the Courageous Sailing Youth Program in his name. Since 2009, the Richard B. Ross Memorial College Bowl has been a fixture of the New England college-sailing circuit, and draws some of the areas top teams.
