Reports To: Youth Program and Outreach Director 

Status: Part Time, appx. 15-20 Hours/Week 

Position Overview: 

Courageous Sailing transforms lives through sailing programs that inspire learning, personal growth, and leadership. Since our inception as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in 1987, our programs have utilized sailing and the marine environment as platforms for social-emotional development and out-of-school-time learning. We are committed to making sailing accessible to metro Boston youth from all walks of life, and we hold true to our founder’s conviction that “Every child’s perspective is improved fifty yards offshore.” 

The STEM Program Assistant position reports to the Youth Program and Outreach Director. They are responsible for the delivery of STEM-based curriculum to Courageous youth programs. In addition to teaching STEM classes, the STEM program assistant will support the Youth Program’s efforts with program management, materials preparation, data tracking, and evaluation in order to effectively cultivate and educate a diverse and inclusive community.

Educational Responsibilities: 

  • Teach STEM classes within youth programs 
  • Assist Youth Programs team in STEM curriculum development and evaluation

Planning & Implementation: 

  • Support partner school liaisons to develop school-specific best practices and assist with facilitation of engagement of students and families 
  • Assist with the identification and execution of recruitment strategies and student registration 
  • Support efforts around general youth program community outreach and engagement, including: 
    • Engagement Events (e.g. open houses, BBQs, open sailing) 
    • Newsletters 

Youth Program Staff Support: 

  • Support YPD with staff recruitment and hiring efforts 
  • Assist with organization of instructor, volunteer, social, and professional development events 

Job Qualifications: 

  • Two or more years experience teaching or working with youth. 
  • Enthusiasm and passion for the mission of Courageous 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Comfortable giving and receiving feedback and resolving disputes 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office preferred 
  • Strong desire to provide equitable access to education and enrichment is a must
  • Prior experience working with marginalized populations preferred
  • Strong interest in STEM content, experience in a STEM field, and/or pursuing or completed a degree in a STEM subject preferred. 
  • Spanish language proficiency preferred but not required
  • Sailing experience preferred but not required
