About Make-A-Mark

The Courageous community came together on Pier 4 for the 18th annual Make-a-Mark, our signature summertime gala and fundraiser for Courageous's youth development programs. We're so happy to report that it could hardly have gone better, with complimentary hors d'oeuvres, beer, wine, and cocktails plus music from the Baha Brothers, and two auctions -- a perfect night out for nearly 600 Courageous friends and supporters who came out to Charlestown.

Through the generosity of all of our sponsors and guests, we raised over $100,000! Every dollar goes directly to support Courageous kids, helping them not only to learn how to sail, but also to succeed in life. As you know, Courageous Sailing exists to serve Boston kids - 1100 this year, our biggest group ever. And Courageous continues to exist because of all our supporters. With your help, Courageous kids are building self-confidence, life skills, and job skills - and most would never have this kind of opportunity without Courageous.

We're already looking forward to Make-a-Mark 2015 -- hope to see you there! Until then, catch up with photos from this year's event on Facebook.

FAF - Laser About Fund-A-Future

Every summer, Courageous provides programs for over 1,000 Boston youth ages 8 to 18, regardless of their ability to pay. Tuition for our full day summer sailing youth program is $500 per child per week. Our staff of 100 instructors specialize in creating a unique learning environment where young sailors can build their self-confidence and leadership skills through a challenging and fun curriculum that emphasizes mathematics and environmental sciences. When you donate to Fund-A-Future you are directly supporting these scholarships for children who would not otherwise have the opportunity to learn to sail.

MAM - AuctionSilent & Live Auctions

This year featured one of our largest and most diverse silent auctions in recent memory with over 75 items. From weekend getaways in Maine to brunch at the Top of the Hub, there were many happy guests who walked home with a win or two. And the best part is that every dollar raised through the silent auction will directly support our youth programs.
A live auction with six very exclusive items including brunch for 10 with the mayor and the chance to toss out the first pitch at a 2015 Red Sox game were the centerpoint of a couple bidding duels. When combined, the two auctions raised well over $40,000 for the youth program!

Questions about the event

Who will the proceeds benefit?

Courageous Sailing teaches sailing and life skills free of charge to over 1,000 Greater Boston children each year. We use sailing instruction as a platform for learning and growth, with a focus on personal responsibility, communication, teamwork, problem solving, and stewardship. All funds raised through our ticket sales, silent auction, raffle and event sponsorships go directly to support our youth programming and provide scholarships for children who wouldn't otherwise have the opportunity to learn to sail.

Why are funds needed?

While Courageous provided over 30,000 hours of programming to over 1,000 children in 2013, and will provide even more in 2014, only one-third of students applying for our Summer Youth Program will be admitted into our program due to limited funding and capacity.  Additional funding is needed to expand access and to maintain the high quality of our programming and fleet.

Who will be there?

Members, neighbors, volunteers, parents, young professionals, sailors from throughout the region and anyone who wants to have fun while supporting Courageous Sailing - you and your friends!

Are there ID requirements or an age limit to enter the event?

There is no age limit to enter the event. Drinks are complimentary for guests over the age of 21. Proper identification is required to receive your drink wristband.

What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?

Parking is available at the Nautica parking garage at 88 Constitution Road ($10 with validation stamp) and Flagship Wharf garage at 197 8th Street ($13 after 5pm if you leave before midnight). Click here for a map with directions by car, mass transit, bicycle and foot. Vehicles are not allowed on the pier.

What can/can't I bring to the event?

There is no place to store your personal belongings, so only bring what you will need. There is ample space under the tent, however this is an outdoor venue so dress accordingly.

Where can I contact the organizer with any questions?

General inquiries can be directed to Corey Williams at Courageous Sailing. Call at (617) 242-3821 x11 or corey@courageoussailing.org

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

Printed tickets are not required for individual ticket purchases.

Group tickets will be under the name of the sole ticket holder or company that purchased the tickets. When you arrive, please let the attendant at the checkin table know what group you are with.

What is the refund policy?

There are no refunds available.
