Growing Confidence

In Thank You, Youth by Ashton Wollett

Thank you very much for your generous support of Courageous Sailing. This is my first year working with Courageous and I am absolutely amazed at all of the good that Courageous does, none of which would have been possible without your support. Learning sailing is one thing, but the skills students learn at Courageous are so much more. They are lifelong skills of independence and confidence, skills that are difficult to learn and that take years to develop, but are more easily learned while sailing.

This past session, I had two students who were very shy and hesitant to skipper. At the beginning, it took a lot of coaxing to get them to drive. By the end of the third week, these two girls couldn’t wait to drive and did so with confidence. They sailed in heavy wind and were even willing to dock the boats. Their confidence and independence skyrocketed. They confidently took control of the boat and you could see this in their actions and decision making off the water. I have faith, from personal experience, this confidence will stay with them and help them grow in all aspects of life.

Thank you for helping these students grow for the rest of their lives!- Reagan
